In short: Nestor has no accounts and no servers. Your progress, notes and settings stay on your phone. We do not collect, sell or share personal data.
What stays on your phone
Nestor saves the following only on your device, in the app's own storage:
- your progress: the days you have finished, your answers to the reading and quiz questions, reviews, trials and seals;
- anything you choose to write in the optional notes, and the quotes you save;
- your settings, such as language, reminder time, sounds and the look of your ship.
We cannot see this information. It is not sent to us or to anyone else. If you delete the app, it is deleted with it. Nestor does not yet offer a backup, so a new phone starts a new voyage.
Reminders
If you turn on the daily reminder, Nestor asks your phone for permission to show notifications and schedules them on the device itself. No notification service of ours is involved, and you can turn reminders off in Settings at any time.
Listening to a passage
The Listen button reads the day's passage aloud with your phone's built-in text-to-speech voice. Depending on your device and its settings, Apple's or Google's speech service may process the text being read. That text is the published passage from the lesson, not information about you.
Sharing
When you share a quote or a stop you have reached, Nestor makes the image on your phone and hands it to your phone's share sheet. It goes only where you choose to send it.
Ratings
From time to time Nestor may show the system's rating dialog from the App Store or Google Play. That dialog is run by Apple or Google; we do not learn who rated the app or what they wrote unless they publish a review.
App stores
Apple and Google handle downloads and may give developers anonymous, combined statistics (for example the number of downloads, or crash reports from people who have agreed to share them with developers). Their own privacy policies apply to that information.
This website and the waitlist
This website uses no cookies, ads or tracking. If you join the waitlist, your email address and preferred language are stored with our hosting provider's form service (Netlify) and used only to tell you when Nestor launches. They are deleted once the launch email is sent, or earlier if you ask. Our hosting provider may briefly keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses, to keep the site secure.
Children
Nestor is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age.
Not medical advice
Nestor is a reading program, not therapy or medical care. If you are struggling, or thinking about hurting yourself, please reach out to someone now. In the United States you can call or text 988.
Changes
If a future version adds anything that handles data differently, such as crash reporting, usage statistics or purchases, we will update this policy and the app's store privacy information before that version is released, and change the date above.
